There's a saying that goes: "Create the world and the user interface will follow." I am working on the next article about activity modeling that illustrates a method for "creating the world". At this point I am not sure whether Jef's kanban from his talk is a way to create the world, or a way to refine the world during production. We'll see. You've done both a great job of describing what happened and a great job of revealing gaps in what I had hoped to accomplish and what actually happened :). I have some answers to you questions, and I am going to blog about them shortly. I'll link when I get them done. The short answers are at least three-fold: dramatically reduce WIP on the tail of the process to force flow; build a "scenario/interaction" supermarket that the spec/code pulls from; and optimize the standard work. One of the risks of doing that workshop format was that we only had three hours, and it wasn't exactly a controlled environment. I'm going to blog a bit about the workshop design and structure, and what I would try to do differently in the next session.
